Friday gallery

As Albert once said: wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it. And it's with this spirit that we finish at 2pm on the last Friday of every month to collectively visit an exhibition or museum of choice. The shared experience helps define the beliefs and vision of the studio and the shared bottle of wine afterwards helps encourage a rigorous critique.

Going out with a bang… get along to see Mike Ballard's immersive, monochromatic piece filling The Arts Gallery in Mayfair before it's demolished to make way for the new Cross Rail system. This transient artwork which combines painting and 'digital fresco' takes you on a wildly skewed, graffiti-style journey through art history, and is an elaborate send off to a space which has exhibited some of art's major players in it's time.

The All Of Everything is at The Arts Gallery, 65 Davies Street, London, W1 10am-6pm Mon-Sat until February

‘You don’t make good design if you speak about design. You make good design if you speak about sex, flesh, sweat...’ – Philippe Starck overflowing with bon mots in BBC2’s new series ‘Design For Life’. Loving it!

Yellow days and long restless nights. Abandoning the scarves and long wooly tights. Stripping the layers pink flesh fill the streets. Little red lobsters line up on Brighton Beach. ‘It’s well hot, I’m boiling’ we love to complain. The sun is shining… we still love to complain. Park life, Wimbledon, it's Pimms o’clock. Magners Cider, oversized sunglasses, flipity flip-flops. Long lazy evenings, the Great British pride. Music and festivals, the Glastonbury mud-slide. Notting Hill carnival, jerk chicken and rice. Brick Lane adventures through Bollywood spice. The Great British Summer spreads all over the land. It's fantastic, it's ours and it's totally grand!

Friday Gallery: Gilbert & George

February’s Friday Gallery (see overview, left) took us to the largest retrospective of any artist ever held at Tate Modern, Gilbert & George: Major Exhibition. Inseparable for 40 years, Gilbert & George are a British institution and their work is truly iconic. Yet the general opinion here was that while the scale and strength of their work is quite unbelievable, the most offensive part of the exhibition wasn’t actually the uncompromising subject matter, but rather the way in which their art has suffered since switching from their traditional photographic technique to being computer generated. Not to be missed.

Inaria visits Lincoln University

Sparked by our involvement with D&AD's Education Council, Inaria Director, Debora Berardi and Senior Designer, Anna Leaver travelled up North yesterday to meet 2nd and 3rd year design students at Lincoln University. An overwhelming number of students attended, eager to hear our debut lecture, How to Avoid an Identity Crisis, giving insight into what it takes to be a successful graphic designer. Each student also received an accompanying guide which we designed and produced – full of useful tips to help kick-start their careers. The lecture was followed by portfolio reviews with 3rd year students. The event was a great success and extremely well-received by both tutors and students alike. Inaria will be taking this lecture on the road again very soon… so watch this space.

Fashion duo import Cockney rhyming slang

Inaria has created a full brand identity for renowned New York fashion designer, Yoon Chang, who is joined by merchandiser, Je-Won Hwang in a new venture based in New York. Through their work at Cynthia Steffe, they've accumulated a loyal following on both sides of the Atlantic and loved the idea of importing the Cockney Rhyming Slang for 'suit' as the name of their soon-to-be-launched brand. The hand-crafted logotype is supported by a series of illustrations featuring rhymes that are linked by an ampersand, such as Apple & Pears and Dog & Bone. Their first collection is due to launch in Fall 2007.

First ‘Friday Gallery’ of 2007: Volume at the V&A

Our 2007 Friday Gallery visits (for more information see Friday Gallery, left) got off to a great start with Volume at the V&A. Volume is a sculpture of light and sound – an array of light columns positioned dramatically in the centre of the V&A's garden which respond to the movement of the viewer. Thanks to the ridiculously short Winter days, we were able to experience the full effect of the sculpture – the darkness of the garden accentuating the beauty and delicacy of both the audio and visual. Volume is a collaboration between United Visual Artists, Robert Del Naja and Neil Davidge.

New edition of One&Only resort directory to launch this Spring

New edition of One&Only resort directory to launch this Spring

One&Only has appointed Inaria to design and produce a new edition of its resort directory. Inaria created their previous directory in 2005, a luxurious casebound book with a print run of 300,000 copies. To ensure that the original directory was unique to One&Only, we commissioned a bespoke making of GFSmith's ColorPlan paper which was used to wrap the hard-back cover. The directory will feature a mixture of resort and 'Moments' photography and will have additional information on One&Only's forthcoming resort, One&Only Cape Town.
