This week saw the launch of Inaria's first venture outside of the UK, with the official opening of our New York studio. Located in the heart of Soho, on the corner of Prince and Lafayette, the studio will service existing international clients, as well as enabling Inaria to expand its client base in the US. The move follows the success of branding projects for New York based clients, including the fashion label Whistle and Flute, and print projects for One&Only resorts in the Bahamas and Mexico.
Working in collaboration with GFSmith and Lasercraft, Inaria has created the first in a series of travel related ephemera inspired by the evocative and amazing destinations that feature in so much of our work. Dreaming of Marrakech captures the elegant and elaborate fretwork and dramatic play on light found throughout this city of extreme contrasts. Due to the intricacy of the design, the execution of choice was laser cutting and in doing so, has demonstrated the amazing possibilities that this medium has to offer. Described by Lasercraft as "the most intricate laser cutting ever undertaken", the design captures just some of the visual feast that Marrakech has to offer.
To promote Sardinias luxury Forte Village Resort at a recent party at Londons BAFTA, Mason Rose commissioned Inaria to design an invitation to capture the special flavour of the event. Taking inspiration from the extensive and abundant gardens at the resort, the design features a floral illustration based on the prevalent Bougainvillea plant, accompanied by the quote Flowers are sunshine, food and medicine to the soul. The glamour and sparkle of the occasion is emphasised through the beautiful finishing: metallic foil-blocking on duplex board in Mediterranean blues, packaged in matching foil envelopes. The invite attracted an enthusiastic response, contributing to the spectacular success of the event.
Remember Spangles and Spacedust? How about Buckaroo and Brasso? Our latest Friday Gallery transported us on a nostalgic journey through over a hundred years of British consumerism with a visit to Notting Hills captivating Museum of Brands. An Aladdins cave of original everyday household packages, toys and memorabilia, it's a time-warp that invokes childhood memories accompanied by gasps and giggles of personal familiarity that inevitably give away your age. Fascinating to see the evolution of tastes and fads over the years and intriguing how certain products have changed so little since Victorian times. Informative and stunning. Itll leave you craving Birds Dream Topping!
Hot off the press is a full suite of Celebrations marketing and guest collateral which Inaria has created for One&Only Resorts. Designed to promote their wedding, honeymoon and special occasion facilities & services, the suite consists of marketing, event and post-event collateral items. The brochure features evocative black & white Moments and is presented in a slipcase box along with fact sheets for each of the resorts. The experience is continued through the design of gift vouchers, wedding and blessing certificates and personalised CDs containing photography taken at each special event all of which are presented in beautiful case-bound boxes.
Leading UK photographer, Ben Rice, has appointed Inaria to create a case-bound book of his most successful images from the last 20 years. During his career, Ben has worked with many of the country's leading companies and design studios, and the book will act as a 'greatest hits' compilation. The book is due to launch in summer 2007 and will complement his existing website.
Catering and events company, Mackintoshs, has appointed Inaria to design and implement a new brand identity. With over 20 years experience, chef Nicky Mackintosh and wife Cindy are renowned in the industry for creating exceptional events, whether its a party for 600 or a dinner for six. As well as having an impressive array of private clients, Mackintoshs has been providing its services to West End theatres for years. In addition to creating a brand identity, Inaria will implement the designs across an array of marketing collateral, including a website. Due to launch in May 2007, the new brand will reinforce Mackintoshs premier position in the catering and events sector.
Februarys Friday Gallery (see overview, left) took us to the largest retrospective of any artist ever held at Tate Modern, Gilbert & George: Major Exhibition. Inseparable for 40 years, Gilbert & George are a British institution and their work is truly iconic. Yet the general opinion here was that while the scale and strength of their work is quite unbelievable, the most offensive part of the exhibition wasnt actually the uncompromising subject matter, but rather the way in which their art has suffered since switching from their traditional photographic technique to being computer generated. Not to be missed.
Sparked by our involvement with D&AD's Education Council, Inaria Director, Debora Berardi and Senior Designer, Anna Leaver travelled up North yesterday to meet 2nd and 3rd year design students at Lincoln University. An overwhelming number of students attended, eager to hear our debut lecture, How to Avoid an Identity Crisis, giving insight into what it takes to be a successful graphic designer. Each student also received an accompanying guide which we designed and produced full of useful tips to help kick-start their careers. The lecture was followed by portfolio reviews with 3rd year students. The event was a great success and extremely well-received by both tutors and students alike. Inaria will be taking this lecture on the road again very soon so watch this space.

Inaria has created a full brand identity for renowned New York fashion designer, Yoon Chang, who is joined by merchandiser, Je-Won Hwang in a new venture based in New York. Through their work at Cynthia Steffe, they've accumulated a loyal following on both sides of the Atlantic and loved the idea of importing the Cockney Rhyming Slang for 'suit' as the name of their soon-to-be-launched brand. The hand-crafted logotype is supported by a series of illustrations featuring rhymes that are linked by an ampersand, such as Apple & Pears and Dog & Bone. Their first collection is due to launch in Fall 2007.
